About the Event

Across London, the development of buildings, spaces and entire neighbourhoods happens without the input of local communities, and often ignores the needs and wishes of people who live in them. The Mayor in particular has powers to carry out planning functions and make decisions with very little oversight. We can see clearly that the resulting development is neither addresses the challenges nor solves the problems London faces.

The Local Community Hustings is an opportunity to question Mayoral candidates on whether they value local communities being part of the planning of their neighbourhoods: how will they act to increase participation and create the kind of inclusive development London desperately needs?

Canndidates rom Labour, Conservative, Green, Liberal Democrat, Women’s Equality Party have been invited.

Format of the event:

Candidates make short opening statements

Seven community groups from across London briefly present the challenges they face, which though experienced locally are typical across the city. (Groups and issues to be confirmed)

The candidates respond.

Further questions, gathered in advance or taken from live chat from the audience.

The moderator is Ross Lydall, City Hall editor of The Evening Standard.
